1 The Turbans first recording, "Let Me Show You (Around My Heart)," as the
“A” side and "When You Dance," as the "B" side, was released early in 1955.
"Let Me Show You," didn't really catch on, but interest began to grow for
"When You Dance," until finally, in November, it hit the national R&B and Pop
charts. "When You Dance" reached #3 on R&B chart, and remained there for about
two months. It rose to only #33 on the pop chart, but stayed there for about
five months, so it was counted as a significant hit - their ONLY one.

2 The original group members were: Al Banks (lead tenor), Matthew Platt
(second tenor), Charlie Williams (baritone), and Andrew "Chet" Jones (bass).
They all came from Downtown Philadelphia and their distinctive trait (apart
from their headgear) was the soaring falsetto of 17-year-old, Al Banks.

4 The Strand was a dance that started in the early- to mid-1950s, in
Philadelphia, to go with the explosion of Doo-wop music coming from that
area. Not much is written about the dance, and the YouTube submission is an
audio-only rendition of the song, "Dancing the Strand," by Maureen Gray from
1962. About all I can tell you is that it was a slow to moderate paced,
hold-her-in-your-arms dance.
