1 "Sugar, Sugar" was the 1969, #1 single of the year. According to
Billboard magazine, this is a feat yet to be duplicated by any other
fictional band. It spent four weeks at #1 the Billboard Hot 100 from
September 20, 1969, and eight weeks at the top of the UK singles chart, and
earned a gold record. The song lists at #63 on Billboard's Greatest Songs of
All Time. On February 5, 2006, "Sugar, Sugar" was inducted into the Canadian
Songwriters Hall of Fame, as co-writer Andy Kim is originally from Montreal,
Quebec. "Sugar, Sugar" is considered the archtype of the bubblegum,
pop-music genre and President George W. Bush said "Sugar, Sugar" is one of
his favorite songs. The song was played at Jenna Bush's wedding party in May
2008.

2 Andy Kim, born Andrew Youakim, on December 5, 1952, is a Canadian pop
singer and songwriter. In the spring of 1974, he released "Rock Me Gently,"
which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and rose to #2 on the UK

3 Most '60s bubblegum groups were faceless studio concoctions, made up of
hired professionals and given nominal group identities after-the-fact. The
Archies made no pretense of being a real band in the first place -- their
music, was "performed" by the animated TV cartoon characters spun off from
Archie comics. In reality, of course, they were a studio concoction made up
of hired professionals, but in this case, they weren't technically faceless.

6 Ron Dante, born Carmine Granito, on August 22, 1945, is an American
singer, songwriter and record producer. Dante, as the lead singer of The
Cuff Links, hit the U.S. Top 10 with the single "Tracy," at the same time
that The Archies' "Sugar, Sugar" was at the top spot on the same chart. He
is also the lead singer on the very funny parody of "Leader of the Pack" by
The Shangri-Las, called "Leader of the Laundromat," by The Detergents. See

American singer-songwriter. He is best known for being a one-hit wonder with
the 1970 song "Montego Bay," which was co-written and produced by Jeff
