1a Greenback is a nickname for the U.S. Dollar. Originally applied
specifically to the 19th century Demand Note dollars created by Abraham
Lincoln to finance the costs of the Civil War for the North. The original
note was printed in black with green on the back side. The term is still
used to refer to the U.$. dollar.

1b This song ("New Greenback Dollar") should not be confused with the one
written by Hoyt Axton ("Greenback Dollar") and popularized by The Kingston
Trio. While the titles are similar the tunes and lyrics are not. Adding to
the confusion is that the Roy Acuff song is often referred to as just,
"Greenback Dollar."

2 From 1934 to 1935, Acuff's backup group was named The Tennessee
Crackerjacks , 1935 to 1938, they were called The Crazy Tenneseeans. In
1938 their name was changed again to The Smoky Mountain Boys. Depending
upon the time records were pressed, the labels reflect the change of name.
