1 Originally a Mexican folk for which Valens infused the traditional tune with
a rock beat. Lore has it that this song, and the accompanying dance, the bamba,
was performed at weddings by the bride and groom to show their unity through
the complicated steps and intricate movements.
2 Ritchie Valens, born Richard Steven Valenzuela, on May 13, 1941, in Southern
California, to Chicano parents, was an American singer, songwriter and
guitarist. Valens' recording career lasted only eight months because of a fatal
plane crash in 1959. During this time, however, he scored several hits. Valens
was known as a pioneer of the Spanish-speaking rock and roll movement. Before
using Ritchie Valens as his stage name, the studio "suits" talked him into the
name, Arvee Allens. Three singles were pressed under that name before he
insisted on changing it to Ritchie Valens.

4 Transcribed from the track on this album.
5 Wrestling's version (in English):
In order to dance the bamab,
In order to dance the bamba,
You need a bit of grace.
A bit of grace for you and I will be.
For you and I will be.
I'm not a sailor.
I'm not a sailor.
I'm the Captain.
I'm the Captain.
Dance the bamba.
Dance the bamba.
No, no, no.
Dance the bamba.
Dance the bamba.
In order to dance the bamab,
In order to dance the bamba,
You need a bit of grace.
A bit of grace for you and I will be.
For you and I will be.
Dance the bamba, hey.
Dance the bamba.
No, no, no.
Dance the bamba.
Dance the bamba.
Note: My spanish isn't that good, but I think there's a little something
missing in the translation. I know ariba means "up," "to go up," or "rise" and
I don't see anything about anyone going up or rising to anything. Also, I don't
think the translation is "A bit of grace for you and I will be." I think it
should be more like, "A bit of grace for me and you. It will be." I'm sure
there's a spanish speaker out there who can fill us in, and I would be ever so
grateful if you would contact me at bri4daz@mp3lyrics.org to enlighten me.
Thank you. :) |
