Peter, Paul & MaryDon't Think Twice, It's All Right Letras:
It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don't matter, anyhow
And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
When the rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm travelin' on
Don't think twice it's all right
It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
Light I never know'd
It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
Don't think twice it's all right
I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye is too good a word gal
So I'll just say "fair-thee-well"
I ain't saying you treated me unkind
You could uh done better, but I don't mind
You just sorta wasted my precious time
Don't think twice it's all right
It ain't no use in callin' out my name gal
Like you never did before
It ain't no use in callin' out my name gal
I can't hear you anymore
I'm a thinkin' and a wonderin' all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul
Don't think twice it's all right

1 "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" is among the most successful of Bob
Dylan's early songs. It was written by the 21-year-old singer/songwriter in
October 1962. Though Dylan claims composing credit, the tune is taken from on
an old song called, "Who's Gonna Buy Your Chickens When I'm Gone," which
previously had been borrowed by folksinger Paul Clayton for his song "Who's
Gonna Buy Your Ribbon Saw." Over this tune, Dylan wrote a lyric reflecting on
his separation from his girlfriend of the time, Suze Rotolo, who was away in
Italy.
2 Dylan recorded "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" for Columbia Records
late November 1962, for his second album, The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, which
was released in May of 1963. In January 1963, Broadside magazine published
the song under the title "It's All Right," with some minor lyric variations
from the familiar version that is shown here. Peter, Paul & Mary recorded
this version later in 1963. Other covers: Joan Baez, Bobby Bare, Chuck
Barris, Brook Benton, The Brothers Four, Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash, Chad &
Jeremy, Cher, Bobby Darin, Nick Drake, José Feliciano, Flatt & Scruggs, The
Four Seasons, The Highwaymen, Waylon Jennings, Odetta, Hugo Montenegro, Elvis
Presley, The Seekers, Jerry Reed, Vonda Shepard, Randy Travis, Doc Watson,
The Wonder Who? (aka The Four Seasons), et al.
3 Band members: Peter Yarrow, Mary Travers and Paul Stookey.
