[Johnny & June:]
We got married in a fever,
Hotter than a pepper sprout.
We've been talkin' 'bout Jackson,
[Johnny:]
Ever since the fire went out.
I'm goin' to Jackson,
I'm gonna mess around.
Yeah, I'm goin' to Jackson,
Look out Jackson town.
[June:]
Well, go on down to Jackson,
Go ahead and wreck your health.
Go play your hand you big-talkin' man,
Make a big fool of yourself.
Yeah, go to Jackson,
Go comb your hair!
[Johnny:]
Honey, I'm gonna snowball Jackson.
[June:]
See if I care.
[Johnny:]
When I breeze into that city,
People gonna stoop and bow.
[June:]
(Hah!)
[Johnny:]
All them women gonna make me,
Teach 'em what they don't know how,
I'm goin' to Jackson,
You turn-a loose-a my coat.
'Cause I'm goin' to Jackson.
[June:]
Goodbye, that's all she wrote.
But they'll laugh at you in Jackson,
And I'll be dancin' on a pony keg [3] .
They'll lead you 'round town like a scalded hound,
With your tail tucked between your legs,
Yeah, go to Jackson,
[ Letras de Canciones encontraron en es.mp3lyrics.org/1KoI ] You big-talkin' man.
And I'll be waitin' in Jackson,
Behind my Jaypan plan. [4]
[Johnny & June:]
Well now, we got married in a fever,
Hotter than a pepper sprout.
We've been talkin' 'bout Jackson,
Ever since the fire went out.
I'm goin' to Jackson,
And that's a fact.
Yeah, we're goin' to Jackson,
Ain't never comin' back.
[June: hums.]
[Johnny:]
Yeah, we got married in a fever,
Hotter than a pepper sprout.
[Fade.]
Honey, we've been talkin' 'bout Jackson...

[1] Gaby Rodgers (née Gabrielle Rosenberg, born 29 March 1928,
Frankfurt, Germany) is an actress, theater director, and journalist.
She is most remembered for her role as Lily Carver in Kiss Me Deadly,
and in particular the iconic scene where she opens the mysterious box.
She is divorced from the songwriter Jerry Leiber. Rodgers is
frequently cited as co-author of the song "Jackson," with Billy Edd
Wheeler, but this is not true. Leiber wrote the song with Wheeler,
using his then-wife's name as a pseudonym.]
[2] Transcribed from the track on this album.]
[3] A pony keg is a beer vessel containing 7.75 U.S. gallons (29.33
liters) of fluid. It is half the size of the standard beer keg and
equivalent to a quarter of a barrel. It will serve roughly 82 twelve
ounce cups. The shape of a pony keg resembles that of a full-sized
keg, while being much easier to move manually.
[4] Jaypan is the "southern" way to pronounce Japan. The are a couple
of theories about the next word. Some think it should probably be
"fan," not "plan." As in she's sitting there hiding behind a Japanese
fan. But in this version, with June Carter Cash, and in the version by
Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood (the other significant version of this song,
it does sound like the women are saying "plan." The theory is that when it
was first recorded, June Carter mistakenly said "plan." And that it was
left in, for whatever reason (maybe no one caught it), and that subsequent
singers just repeated the "error" because, "that's the way June did it."
