Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, and went to number six pop.]

authorship. After the trial, Jimmy Merchant and Herman Santiago were
rightfully given writer's credits.]

preternaturally gifted young vocalists, there was Frankie Lymon. Only 13
years old at the time this song. Lymon was the first black teen idol and
virtually set the template for every successful, major, kiddie-group
afterward. Unfortunately, Lymon left the Teenagers in mid-1957 and neither
had a hit again. Eventually, he fell into heroin addiction, and died in
1968.]
